OMG...SHEisDOPE: Jasmine Badie

The second dancer to grace SHEisDOPE with her presence, is none other than Ms. Jasmine Badie. Although she is a (BAD-ee), the last name is pronounced as (BAY-DEE), for the record.

Jas is another Georgia ๐Ÿ‘ who took her talents to the west coast to better her dancing career. She's been dancing for 12 years and is very passionate about it. When she isn't performing or choreographing, you can find her kickin' it with friends and family, or bumpin' the latest trap sounds.

So far, Ms. Badie has worked with Beyoncรฉ, Trey Songz, Rae Sremmurd, Arianna Grande, Nicki Minaj, P. Diddy, Iggy Azalea, Brandy, Migos and B.O.B.

Even though dancing is her heart, she wants to get into more acting roles. Thus far, she has had appearances in Ghostbusters, Footloose, and Beyoncรฉ's Lemonade film.

Jasmine most recently performed at MTV's Video Music Award's with Fifth Harmony, and the list keeps on growing as she continues to thrive on the dancing scene and your T.V. screen.

Q&A with Jasmine

ย

Q: What is needed to become a professional dancer? Is an agency needed?

A: Honestly, I feel it takes realizing that this industry doesnโ€™t care about you or your feelings. I think it takes a strong heart to do what we do and your feelings will definitely get hurt if you aren't ready for it. Secondly, having an agent does help with certain things, but networking as well. Can't really be, "outta sight outta mind" so being around helps a lot. And lastly, I would say train in just about ANY kind of style you can! There is nothing like being fluent in different styles of dancing! I wish I knew this when I was younger ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Q: What inspires you to be great?

A: What inspires me to be great is the simple fact that we have the ability to be; if that makes sense. We all have a God-given right to be the best beings we can be, so I feel it is my responsibility to be great because God said we can be. I aspire to inspire. I just want the people who felt like they couldnโ€™t do something, to always believe that they can. No matter what the obstacle is. They are the ones who inspire me to keep going and to keep going for things I never thought I could get or do.

Q: How was your VMA experience? Any nerves?

A: This year's VMAs was pretty amazing! I've worked with these girls (Fifth Harmony) before and I felt like a proud sis! They are amazingly, talented young ladies and I think this was such a great performance for them. I was definitely nervous for sure! I always get nervous for live TV because it's like whatever happens is going to happen and there's no going back. But when things get going and the music starts, it feels like a roller coaster ride and I just lose it. I love it! This performance was pretty great!

Q: Could you date a man with two left feet?

A: Probably not! I'm not saying that he needs to be a professional dancer, but a little bounce would be nice lol.

Q: So far, what has been your proudest moment?

A: Man, proudest momentโ€ฆ I think it would have to be when I first worked with Beyoncรฉ during her first Super Bowl. I was there as one of her dancers alongside 30 other girls, and there was this one step that she was trying to figure out how to do. It was called the 'Onion Booty'. I was on the sideline doing it, and she caught me doing it and walked up to me and asked,โ€œCan you show me?" I almost choked a little and said, "Of course!" So, I put on, โ€œGone to the Moonโ€ by Future and I got the chance to help her learn how to do the 'Onion Booty'! I was pretty darn proud!

Q: What does your diet consist of?

A: Oh goodness! I love to eat everything! I've always had trouble with my weight and maintaining it over the years, but these last two years I've learned to stay a bit more disciplined. I love veggies and salmon. I've been trying to stay away from fried chicken lately, but I'm a southern girl so it's pretty tough. I love soul food, but I just can't do too much of it.

Q: What's your favorite song right now?

A: Ahhhhh! Thatโ€™s super hard! I love trap music all day and you can never go wrong with a ratchet song. But, I also love neo soul and chill vibes as well. So, I have to say right now my favorite songs are โ€œThem Changesโ€ by Thundercat and probably, โ€œBodak Yellowโ€ by Cardi B.

Q: How does LA compare to Atlanta?

A: I donโ€™t think LA really can compare to Atlanta. I love LA for the work and the opportunity it has, but I can't say that I would ever settle down here unless I had to. Atlanta is my home and forever will be. Nothing compares to the music there, the beautiful people, the food, the prices, etc. I plan on getting a house in Atlanta next year to be more bi-coastal. I love ATL!

Q: What's your favorite spot in LA for good vibes?

A: I love a good hookah bar! There is this fly place called Lotus thatโ€™s really nice! I also like going to the parks out here to write and reflect. There are tons of those here.

Q: Name a food you can't live without?

A: Probably Pizza ๐Ÿ•

Q: The Trey Songz solo, how did that come about?

A: My big sis, and one of my mentors, Rhapsody James, also the choreographer for Trey Songz, hit me up about this job coming up and told me that there was going to be a potential solo part. I was sooooo nervous, but super determined so I prepared and stayed in the gym. Next thing you know, I made it past through the audition! It was such an amazing experience because my mom had no idea that I had gotten the job. So come show time, I told her to try and find me on stage and she couldnโ€™t believe it was me on the screen. This is a proud moment for sure. But, such an amazing experience!

Q: Who would you like to work with in the future?

A: I would love to go on tour with Gucci Mane one day! I love his music and I think it would be so crunk if he had dancers! I would love to dance for Bruno Mars too. I think he is super talented! I'd also love to work with Tariji P Henson, Meryl Streep, Shonda Rhymes, and Issa Raye. I'm looking to transition into acting soon and these are just a few I'd love to work with some day.
