OMG...SHEisDOPE: Angel White
Reigning from Atlanta, Ga, another peach ripens. This peach goes by Angel White and her voice is just that, angelic. She's currently on tour in the Metro Atlanta area, gracing the city with sounds from her first EP, Day Sessions.
She tried the professional route, but she knew that wasn't for her. Once Angel decided to follow her passion, her life was just beginning.
The album is intimate, mature and strikingly beautiful. You can stream it here and purchase on iTunes, Spotify and Google Play.
Q: How did your music career get started?
A: I graduated from college and realized that I was chasing the wrong dream. It took a few months of unemployment, a lot of self-reflecting and talking to God to honestly show me what my true purpose is on this earth. I began to write and record and landed a few background vocal gigs (K. Michelle and Raury) and began to pursue music full-time.
Q: Musically, who are your biggest influences?
A: Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, Kanye West, Frank Ocean, James Blake, The Dream and Sia.
Q: Your EP, Day Sessions, is like a diary. It's so intimate and refreshing. What were some of your inspirations behind this album?
A: My biggest inspiration was my own experiences. I was able to use my writing process as an opportunity to work through the soul ties I was struggling with. It was tough to work through it because I was scared to reveal so much, but ultimately, I am glad I did.
Q: Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
A: All of my biggest influences + Solange...a bunch of the indie guys and girls booming in Atlanta.
Q: If you could bring any artist back from the dead who would it be and why?
A: I can't choose one. Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Luther Vandross. Top entertainers and voices of our time.
Q: Being from Atlanta, where is one of your favorite spots to get inspired or vibe out?
A: Any coffee shop around. The smell of coffee calms me.
Q: This quote is on your website: "I NEEDED TO HEAL. I REALIZED THE VULNERABILITY THAT BLOSSOMED THROUGH WRITING DOWN EVERYTHING EVERYDAY WAS JUST THE MEDICINE MY SOUL NEEDED TO BREAK FREE."
What does that mean to you?
A: When things get tough, we all should find comfort in something that not only makes us happy but uplifts us too.
Q: When did you start writing?
A: I've always written. I've written songs, raps, poems, short stories, research papers, everything. I'm almost sure I've written since I actually could hold a pencil.
Q: What is your jam for the summer?
A: Wild Thoughts. Rihanna killed.
Q: If you were a cocktail, which one would you be and why?
A: Vodka and Tonic with a splash of lime because I'm discreet and refreshing.
Q: Can you tell us what we have to look forward to with you?
A: My Acoustic Living Room Tour is wrapping up in August and there are a few spots available at the Atlanta show (angelwhite.co/thedaysessiontour). More music, of course. Artistic growth personally and professionally and different sides of me.
Q: What has been your greatest success thus far?
A: Putting out my first EP Day Sessions was major for me. It spoke to the faith of my God and the persistence and hard work of myself. I can't wait for more to come.
Q: For those wanting to pursue a music career, what advice do you have for them?
A: Live authentically, love unconditionally and create responsibly. Self-doubt is normal. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Speak over your life--it changes things.
Thank you Angel for taking time out to be a part of SHEisDOPE. It is clear that your future is bright and SiD is proud to be able to recognize your talent. Kill your tour and you will always have a home with SHEisDOPE.
