OMG...SHEisDOPE: Lucy Edosomwan
Soon-to-be your new, favorite Nigerian-American woman, is Lucy Edosomwan. Not only is she educated, but she uses her very unique look to drive her modeling career. In case you missed the Miss Nigeria USA pageant, Lucy killed it and was named "Miss Congeniality".
When Lucy isn't doing health consultant work or modeling, she's listening to a podcast or probably eating rice, stew, and plantain (her fave Nigerian dish).
Growing up in New York and Georgia has helped shape Lucy into who she is today. She's had to learn American ways while remaining true to her Nigerian culture and values, which in turn have created a beautiful, blended being.

Did you ever imagine that you’d be in a pageant?
Yes. Being in a pageant has always been on my bucket list. I looked at it as a “coming to womanhood” project and experience
Congrats on winning "Miss Congeniality" during the Miss Nigeria pageant! What made you decide to enter?
I decided to enter the Miss Nigeria USA pageant so I could reconcile the inner-conflict I had with my multiculturalism. Growing up in a traditional Nigerian household, yet living in America. It is a feeling that most first-generation children feel. It was also a bucket-list item. I thought it would be a huge step in discovering who I was as a woman and to share my passions with whoever would listen.
You have a very unique style. Where do you get your styling inspiration from? 👘👝
I get my style inspiration from my mother. One can literally go into her closet and be set for styling a vintage shoot, modern shoot or multicultural wedding. I grew up in a very fashion savvy nigerian family so I was bred into the culture and now fashion and style is an extension of me. I love looking good because it makes me feel good. I also keep up with latest trends, borrow what I like and mesh it into my style to always remain unique.
What has been your Nigerian experience in America?
Growing up as a Nigerian-American woman, I found myself in conflict with my identity. I was being raised by parents who grew up in Nigeria and immigrated to the United States. They inculcated in us Nigerian values but when I went to school each day and later to work, everything was telling me how to be American- how to appreciate my rights and independence, social acclimation and also feminism. Bringing this back home to my Nigerian household always brought mixed feelings, confusion and a longing for understanding.
When and how did you get into modeling?
I got into modeling at a very young age, when I was about 4 or 5. My mom would take me from city to city in New York to make castings. At the time, I didn’t know why or what modeling was but I found it interesting.

Where is home to you?
I have this duality of home with New York and Georgia. New York gave me my edge, while the southern hospitality gave me charm and humility. I love both places.
If there is one misconception people have about you, what do you want them to know?
I would say with men, possibly with women too, I appreciate level-headed, meaningful, purposeful and impactful conversations. When I meet guys they always default to the slick talk, woopty-woo, blase blah, beautiful this, bae that- and I’m not really interested in that. I’m interested in dreams, desires, wants and purpose. Once you know those things, I want to know how I can help you reach them.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years, I see myself with a home as well as several rental properties, an international and domestic modeling contract, a feature in Vogue Brasil and Arabia, having completed multiple trips to Nigeria to assist with the development of a sound education system, running my company, Babs + Mickie and seeing rising profit with plans of growth, program development, and planning for media shows and creative content; releasing a documentary on my life and interests.
What’s your favorite 💿of all-time?
I don’t really purchase albums or listen to music with objective. A throwback is "The Emancipation of Mimi" and more recent, Kendrick Lamar's,"Damn".
What has modeling taught you?
Modeling has taught me how to be confident, self-aware, fit and health and also how to strive for what you are passionate about. I love modeling and my goal is to be a famous supermodel despite my shorter size.
Favorite fashion trend?
Expensive Clothing - materials like silk, fine lace, beaded, feathers worn with athletic shoes, like a pair of Nikes.
What’s up next for Lucy?
Applying to several modeling agencies. I am looking for an agent to get more bookings, scouting Ph.D. programs domestic and overseas, picking up freelance or contracting roles for top companies for program development and coordination.
